The Timeless Elegance of Steel Look Bifold Doors

When it comes to enhancing the beauty and functionality of your living space, few design elements can match the allure of steel bifold doors. Inspired by the iconic steel-framed windows popularized in the early 20th century, to steel style bifold doors have gained immense popularity in contemporary architecture. These doors seamlessly blend classic industrial aesthetics with modern functionality, creating a unique focal point in any home. Here we will delve into the timeless elegance of steel-look bifold doors and explore their many benefits.

At Colin’s Sash Windows we have years of experience with aluminium steel-look doors. We realised that, although very popular, not everyone can afford the original metal doors made of steel. We have chosen aluminium profiles that replicate the look made by the UK’s biggest supplier – Smart Systems. The bifold door options can be cheaper than our steel-look French doors because they can be made higher so you don’t need a fixed top light. We offer 3 types of their bifold doors:

  • Visofold 6000 which is their slimmest system with 94mm sightlines where the door sashes meet . This is the most expensive option. It has 48mm transoms that horizontally divide the doors into sections with individual sealed units. Because the profiles are so slim the maximum dimensions per leaf are 1000mm wide and 2200mm high. Price around £1000 plus VAT per leaf.
  • Visofold 1000 with 134mm sightlines. Each leaf can be up to 1200mm wide and 2500mm high. They have 25mm horizontal astragal bars dividing the single sealed unit into sections. We also offer a slightly slimmer version – Visofold 1000 slim with 122mm sightlines. Price from around £750 plus VAT per leaf.

Unparalleled Aesthetics

Steel-look bifold doors exude a sense of sophistication and elegance that is hard to match. Their sleek, minimalistic design and slender metal frames add a touch of industrial chic to any space, be it a traditional home or a contemporary loft. The distinctive grid pattern created by the slender frames lends a sense of visual interest and architectural charm to both the interior and exterior of your property. Whether fully closed or opened wide to merge indoor and outdoor spaces, these doors create a stunning visual impact.

Abundance of Natural Light

One of the most significant advantages of Heritage style bifold doors is their ability to flood your living spaces with natural light. The large glass panels allow sunlight to permeate every corner of your home, creating an inviting and airy atmosphere. By maximizing natural light, these doors make your living spaces feel more spacious, vibrant, and welcoming. The seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces further enhances the sense of openness and connection with nature.

Depending on the opening configuration, our heritage bifold doors are fitted with a lever handle on both sides of the doors as standard, with the option to go with a D-handle instead.

The door leaves are fixed to stainless steel rollers for reliable and smooth operation. Sashes are hung from a floating mullion and slide on a recessed bottom roller and top guide, which allow ultra-slim profiles, smooth operation and robust security.

The doors also feature magnetic catches. These prevent the doors from hitting each other when opened, which could potentially cause damage. They also serve to hold the doors open, ensuring that they will not be caught and slammed by a sudden breeze when left open. As a result, they are a great little feature for protecting your doors from everyday wear and tear.
